Society for Technical Communication Arizona Chapter Website Redesign Project

Project Type: Website Redesign

Skills: Collaboration, Usability, Web Design, AGILE Methodology, Organization, Detail Oriented

Technology: WordPress, Trello, Zoom, Slack

I participated in the Society for Technical Communication Arizona Chapter’s website redesign project, initially spanning from April 2019 to August 2019. Through this project, I learned how AGILE methodology worked as we used this to manage four teams of student volunteers and STC AZ members. The project encompassed a full redesign of the old STC AZ website using WordPress.

My primary site contributions were the Officer Contact page content, organization, and forms, and also usability testing for the first full draft of the site. From the beginning of the project, I voluntarily took thorough notes during weekly meetings, then reorganized these and posted them for all team members to view within an hour. These notes helped keep our project progress documented, as well as served as a resource for later reference when making site design decisions.

Though STC AZ officially launched the new website at the end of August 2019, work to maintain and improve the site continues. In May of 2020, I will be traveling with our project leader and another team member to the annual STC Summit to present our project in a session titled “Redesign Your STC Website Using Students and a Few Low-Cost Tools.”
